There are many things that take up valuable space in your home, office or warehouse. Things you need to keep but only need to access occasionally. In the home, things such as the children’s stuff while at boarding school, university or overseas (seems the kids expect us to store their stuff forever!). Also, the seasonal stuff such as skis, camping equipment, fishing gear. Even the mother-in-law if she is well preserved and non-perishable!
From your office or warehouse why not store those things like records, excess stock and display material. Clear out the things that clutter up your life and you will create the space you need. You name it and it will probably fit into a unit at Alcatraz Self Storage.
Alcatraz is a purpose-built, high security complex originally opened in 1999 and built in stages to meet Taupo’s increasing storage requirements. The complex now comprises a total of 210 units offering 19 different sizes. These self-locking units range in size from 1 cubic metre lockers at $25 per month to our largest unit at a whopping 84 cubic metres for $275 per month (GST inclusive). It is our policy to encourage our clients to take the smallest possible unit that meets their requirement thus minimizing their storage fees.

Management
Alcatraz is owned and operated by long-term Taupo residents and we offer a very personalised service. Our on-site office is open every weekday from 11 am until 2 pm and from 10 am until noon on Saturdays. Outside of these hours the phone is on diversion to the duty manager who is also one of the owners. We are thus able to assist with inquires or solve any problems outside office hours.Self Storage Association of Australasia
Alcatraz is members of the Self Storage Association of Australasia and complies with its Code of Ethics. The Self Storage Agreement and procedures generally used by Alcatraz are similar to those followed by hundreds of self storage businesses in Australia and New Zealand.Security
The Alcatraz site is enclosed by a 26 wire commercial electric fence that is also alarmed. The alarms are monitored 24 hours and a security contractor patrols the site nightly and on weekends. The electric security gate can only be operated by cardholders and a computer record is kept of everyone who enters the site and also their departure times.Referrals
We are now finding that a large proportion of our business is repeat customers or referrals. This indicates to us that we have a generally satisfied customer base but we are always striving to improve. We would appreciate your comments if you have any suggestions as to how we might better meet your requirements.Reservations and Space Confirmation
We will assist you to obtain a unit suitable for your needs however it is your responsibility to ensure that the space will be large enough. If the space booked by you proves to be too small, then you will need to pay the extra cost for the additional space (provided that Alcatraz has additional space available on the date required).A booking is only confirmed when a $60 non-refundable deposit towards the first month’s storage has been received. Alcatraz then guarantees that the total space booked is available on the date nominated by you. However, while every effort will be made to give you a single unit equivalent to the total space booked, Alcatraz reserves the right to use two or more smaller units if necessary.
The Self Storage Agreement needs to be completed and any monies paid during normal office hours.
Please keep us informed of developments, e.g. any delays or advances on the booked date. There is no such thing as too much communication! It is difficult to guarantee space availability if customer arrival details are subject to change without notice.
Right of Access
Only registered storers have automatic right of access to the Alcatraz property. Your access card is for your confidential use and should be treated with the same care as you would a bankcard. You should not lend your card to anyone - you may be putting your property and that of others at risk.The card reader system keeps a log of who enters and the time that they enter and depart. Thus if a security breach occurs, it will be possible to ascertain who was on site. If you lose your card, please immediately notify Alcatraz so that it can be cancelled.
If you wish to give anyone a right of temporary access (e.g. a removal company) then you must arrange in advance with Alcatraz management and use your password as authorisation code. Only the specific party nominated will be given access.
